Well, I've run out of things to say.
As of July 1st of this year, I am taking a year-long sabbatical from all things Internet. Not even gonna log on once. Even cancelled the data plan on my Blackberry. I am just plain bugging out.
I'd like to tell you that I'm doing this because I want to spend time with the missus, starting our family, fixing the house, and working on my many dozens of projects (podcasts, book, cars, renovations, directed energy weapons, etc). I'd like to, but I'd be lying.
Truth told, I am sick of the internet and need some time away.
I'm sorry, internet. It's not you, it's me.

A friend of mine just sent me an email, joking that it didn't really matter, since my blog ceased being relevant a long time ago. I disagreed, saying my blog was never relevant! ;)

I felt the same when moving from my blog last summer.....some folks will chuckle at your decision but I believe I can understand why.

ReplyDeleteIn the five minutes after I posted this, I've had several messages and emails telling me I'd never last a year... as well as an equal amount of emails of people wishing they could do the same thing.
I lived the first sixteen years of my life without internet, and was "online" in 1989 (uucp, usenet, etc) before the advent of the World Wide Web and affordable home internet.
I think I'm entitled a break after 23 years.

ReplyDeleteI know I'm going to go nuts if I don't write something during my time off, so I picked up a mint Smith-Corona Classic 12 at a second-hand store!
Probably going to keep a journal, too, to note any reflections I may have on my sabbatical.
I'm going all in. Just subscribed to netflix and downloaded the Android app for it. Plus 6 TB of downloaded and recorded nonsense. I'm ready for the zombie apocalypse.
